The World’s largest Slot Jackpots. The world’s first wide area progressive jackpot system, Megabucks has been awarding life-changing jackpots to lucky winners since 1986.

If you’re the type of person who likes to chase progressive jackpots, you’re probably also the type of person who wants to know where to find the biggest progressive jackpots right now.

You’re in luck because that’s the topic of my latest blog posts.

Below I name the games with the biggest progressive jackpots and where you can find them.

The Different Kinds of Progressive Jackpots

I’ve included lottery games in my listings of the biggest progressive jackpots below.

But a purist might think my definition is too broad.

Most gamblers think of progressive jackpots as being casino games. But the mechanism behind how these games work isn’t much different, so it seems silly to leave them off the list.

Most progressive jackpots are found on slot machine games. These can be divided into 3 different types of slots:

  • Standalone progressives- These are generally the smallest progressive jackpots in the casino. The money you feed into the machine fuels the jackpot, but if no one is playing, the jackpot stays where it is.
  • Local area progressive– These are banks of slot machines within the same casino where play on any of the games in that bank increases the size of the jackpot. These jackpots are bigger than the standalone games, but not as big as the wide area progressives.
  • Wide area progressive- The slot machine games listed on this page are all wide area progressive machines. These are games which are networked in multiple casinos throughout the state. No matter where you are in the state, if you’re playing one of these games, a percentage of your bets go to feed the increasing jackpots.

Slot machines and lotteries aren’t the only games with progressive jackpots. Video poker games often offer progressive jackpots, too.

But they’re generally small compared to the progressive jackpots available via lottery and slot machine games.

Many casinos also offer table games with progressive jackpots. These jackpots are even smaller (usually) than the progressive jackpots available on video poker games.

Land-based casinos aren’t the only casinos offering progressive jackpots. Online casinos also offer progressives. I’ve included listings for the biggest of these below, too.

Here are the specific games to keep an eye on if you want the biggest jackpots:

Powerball

Major lottery games are progressive jackpots of a sort, even though most people think of slot machines when they think of progressive jackpot games. I cover slot machine games below, but I’d be remiss in my duty of reporting on the BIGGEST jackpots if I left out Powerball.

You can play Powerball in 44 different states. It’s also available in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Washington DC. The jackpot starts at $40 million and grows until someone wins the game.

You can watch Powerball drawings on Wednesday and Saturday nights at 11 pm Eastern Time. You can play for $2 or $3, depending on whether you want to opt for the Power Play. Your odds of winning are about 1 in 292 million.

Powerball holds the distinction of having the largest single lottery jackpot ever—almost $1.6 billion. Three lucky souls split that jackpot in 2016.

As I write this, the jackpot sits at $68 million. You can see the latest winning numbers and the current jackpot on the Powerball official website.

Mega Millions

The other major lottery game in the United States offering a huge progressive jackpot is Mega Millions. (Not to be confused with Megabucks, which I cover later in this post.)

Like Powerball, Mega Millions is available in 44 states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Washington DC. The jackpot starts at $15 million and grows until someone wins the grand prize.

Mega Millions, like Powerball, will cost $2 to play, $3 if you opt for the Megaplier. This new pricing doesn’t go into effect until late October. Until then, you can still play Mega Millions for just a dollar.

The largest Mega Millions jackpot on record was $656 million, which was hit in March 2012.

You can find the winning numbers and the current size of the jackpot on the Mega Millions official website.

The odds of winning Mega Millions are marginally better than the odds of winning Powerball—1 in 259 million.

Megabucks

The biggest progressive jackpots in Nevada—including Reno and Las Vegas—can be found throughout the Megabucks network. These games are easy to find because they’re literally located in every casino you can imagine.

The jackpot starts at $10 million and increases in size until someone hits the jackpot. At that point, it resets.

As I write this, the jackpot sits at $10.11 million. It was hit most recently in August at the Fremont Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The Megabucks game was the first wide-area progressive jackpot in Nevada. You can find examples of the games which feed into this jackpot on IGT’s official site for the game. That site also features a jackpot ticker, so you can monitor the size of the jackpot from your smartphone or from your home computer. The site also features a map of the locations where you can find these games.

I should point out that the size of the jackpots on the Megabucks network dwarfs that of the nearest competitors. If you love slot machines and want to play for the biggest progressive jackpots, this is the game to play.

It’s not clear what the exact odds of winning Mega Bucks slots are. Unlike the lottery, slot machine manufacturers aren’t required to disclose the actual odds. I’ve seen estimates that put the odds of winning at between 1 in 17 million and 1 in 50 million.

Those odds compare favorably with the odds of winning either of the big lottery games I mentioned.

Millionaire Sevens

Millionaire Sevens has a jackpot that starts at $1 million. As I write this, the jackpot stands at almost $1.7 million.

This is a significantly smaller progressive jackpot than the other jackpots mentioned on this page.

But the odds of winning are significantly better, too.

The biggest this jackpot has ever grown was $3.7 million.

Mega Moolah

Mega Moolah is an online slot machine game available at Microgaming powered casinos. These properties don’t accept players from the United States, but jackpot hunters in Europe can usually play (depending on their country of origin).

The jackpot for this game starts at $1 million, but it also features 3 other tiers of jackpots:

  • The Major Progressive, which starts at $10,000.
  • The Minor Progressive, which starts at $100.
  • The Mini Progressive, which starts at $10.

The big jackpot—the one starting at $1 million—is called the “Mega Progressive”.

Mega Moolah pays out, on average, once every 60 days or so.

The game features a wildlife/jungle theme. Symbols on the game include various jungle animals like elephants and antelopes.

Major Millions

Before Microgaming rolled out Mega Moolah, Major Millions was the big jackpot game in town. It’s still a popular and entertaining game. As I write this, the jackpot there is over $1.07 million.

Major Millions hits relatively often, every couple of weeks, in fact.

Like Mega Moolah, it’s not available to players in the United States.

The game is available in 2 versions, a traditional 3-reel game and a bigger 5-reel version. No matter which version you play, the bet size is $3. On the 3-reel game, you’re playing for $1 per line on 3 paylines. The bigger version has 15 paylines, and you bet 20 cents per line.

It’s a cute game with a military theme, and Major Million has been a mainstay of Microgaming’s slots selection for years.

Aztec Millions

If you’re a progressive jackpot hunter from the United States, Aztec Millions is my recommendation. This is a Realtime Gaming slot machine game. Most of the casinos powered by RTG welcome real money players from the United States.

As I write this, the jackpot for Aztec Millions is over $2.28 million.

The game costs $5 per spin to play—20 cents per line on 25 paylines.

Like many online slot machines, Aztec Millions features a theme based on an ancient culture associated with treasure—in this case, the Aztecs.

Conclusion

The biggest progressive jackpots right now always vary according to who has won recently. As far as I know, no individual site tracks every potential progressive jackpot. You’ll need to shop around at multiple sites to find the biggest jackpots available.

Megabucks Slot Machine Payouts

I wouldn’t spend too much time stressing out over which jackpot is the biggest, though.

The house edge on these games is insanely high—some estimates have them over 25%.

The odds of winning are tiny, too. You’re far more likely to be struck by lightning than you are to actually win any of the progressive jackpot games listed on this page.
